Open a New Market for Your Application
Apple has years of success selling to customers in creative professions - musicians, artists designers, architects, advertising agencies and more. These are dedicated Mac users, and they're not going to be moving to Windows. They're also customers that need business applications and their number is growing.
Apple's Growth
Apple's market is getting bigger. Gartner expects Apple to more than double its PC market share in the U.S. and Western Europe by 2011. Add a recent announcement from Microsoft that Office 2008 for the Mac that sales are the highest in the 19-year history of the unit and it's obvious that now is a good time to be getting in to the Macintosh marketplace.
Pervasive Developer Opportunity on Mac
Apple users are businesses - most of them small and midsized - and Mac OS X doesn't have a huge number of business applications. So, companies run virtual Windows environments - VMware, Boot Camp, or Parallels Desktop - because they can't find suitable native Mac alternatives. It's a perfect opportunity for Pervasive PSQL application developers to put their software into an entirely new market space.
The Key: PSQL v10 Native on Mac OS X
- Pervasive PSQL on Macintosh - We've already helped one partner, Abacus Research, to move into the Mac market. Pervasive created a custom Abacus version of PSQL v10 that runs, native, on OS X. Check out the press release or read the Answerman's blog posting.
- From Linux to OS X - Since Mac OS X is based on Unix (and derived from BSD), a lot of software written for BSD or Linux can be recompiled to run on OS X. Pervasive Engineering, with a little bit of ingenuity, reworked the Linux version of PSQL v10 to run on OS X. Now Abacus ships and supports PSQL v10 for Mac with their newest ERP product.
- Apple Desktop and Server - With PSQL v10 running natively on OS X, Pervasive developers can deliver fully client-server capable applications that run on standard Apple hardware, standard Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server. Apple customers don't need to set up and support separate (virtual or otherwise) client-server environments. And they'll love you for it.
