DataExchange v5 - Release Notes
General Release - January 2012

Welcome to Pervasive DataExchange v5. This readme contains the following topics:

What’s New in Pervasive DataExchange v5

Pervasive DataExchange v5 includes all of the features and enhancements of release 4.0. The upgrade enables the functionality of your previous release to be compatible with Pervasive PSQL Vx Server and other Pervasive PSQL products.

Supported Operating Systems

Pervasive DataExchange v5 is supported on the same Windows platforms as Pervasive PSQL v11 and Pervasive PSQL Vx Server. For a complete list of the supported operating systems, refer to the Pervasive Software Web site ( http://www.pervasivedb.com).

Supported Database Products

Pervasive DataExchange v5 is a Windows-only product supported by the following Pervasive PSQL database products.

Installation Notes

This section includes useful information related to installing Pervasive DataExchange v5.

If you have not yet installed Pervasive DataExchange v5 and want to read about installation, see the Getting Started with Pervasive DataExchange guide for your particular edition of Pervasive DataExchange. A PDF version of this guide is provided on the product installation media.

The software and hardware requirements for Pervasive DataExchange are listed on the Pervasive Software web site.

Pervasive DataExchange v5 can be used with Pervasive PSQL Vx Server and with Pervasive PSQL v11. However, the License Administrator provided with Pervasive PSQL v11 does not correctly display all of the attributes of Pervasive DataExchange v5 licenses. An update is available for the Pervasive PSQL v11 database engine. If you apply the latest update, then License Administrator on the database engine machine and on each Pervasive PSQL v11 Client correctly displays all of the attributes of Pervasive DataExchange v5 licenses.

Upgrade Notes

This section summarizes DataExchange installation and upgrades.

32-bit to 64 bit Upgrades

Upgrading Pervasive DataExchange 32-bit to Pervasive DataExchange 64-bit requires a new deployment of your replication environment.

Known Issues

The following lists the known issues for Pervasive DataExchange v5 at the time of release.

Issue
Description
58136
From DX3.0 onwards, DX has been supported on Vista.
However due to insufficient rights, many of DX's utilities don't work on Vista unless run as administrator.
Examples include DataExchange Designer, DX Deployment Wizard, and the command line utility dxact.

Pervasive DataExchange v5 does not support the following Pervasive PSQL feature:
  • V2 metadata (longer object names up to 128 characters)
56306
Closing the Pervasive PSQL Control Center ahead of Pervasive DataExchange Statistics and Log Views window may cause the Control Center to hang or behave inconsistently. PCC may get into a state where there is no tree in the explorer pane on the left side. At this point PCC is useful for DataExchange purposes only.
Workaround: Close PCC and remove C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pervasive Software\PSQL\rcp\workspace-pcc\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.ui.workbench\workbench.xml.
Note: After performing the workaround, PCC should start fine with the default settings. If the same order of events repeats and PCC is unusable again, you will need to remove the file again using this workaround. The xml file contains appearance settings for PCC windows, and removing it will not affect functionality.
56304
DX Deployment Wizard Print Summary button does not function properly if a printer is not installed.
After successful completion of Deployment Wizard, clicking Print Summary should prompt to print the summary. If no printer is installed on the machine, then it should prompt to install a printer. In Pervasive DataExchange v5, clicking Print Summary does not display the error message. It works properly if there is a printer added.
Solution: Add a printer before clicking Print Summary.
56334
DataExchange does not support using regular expressions with the dxdynpath utility.
Solution: When using the dxdynpath utility, use Dir expressions. Example: dxdynpath append /p=”dir ..\test.MKD” test
56697
Network Shares cannot be accessed from DX Deployment Wizard's Browse Button.
Workaround: Do not try to browse to a network share directly from the wizard. Map a drive to that share instead. Then chose the mapped drive to browse to the project file.
57562
Pervasive DataExchange v5 1-way replication (with overwrite) from First Site to multiple Partner Sites fails.
Attempting to run a 1-way replication from a First Site to 2 or more Partner Sites with the 2nd type of replication "Delete and replace all data on the selected sites with data from source database" option selected fails to complete. The First Site only attempts to replicate to one of the Partner Sites instead of all of them and it fails with the following errors in the log:
E 06f8 07-11 13:38:31 rtbproj (rtbnet) - rtb (2KS) is not currently allowing replication - please try again later
E 06f8 07-11 13:38:31 An error occurred in the sync session envelope.
E 06f8 07-11 13:38:31 Refresh or Complete Replication has been disallowed.
Note: the Pervasive DataExchange User’s Guide states that this should be able to replace the data on all Partner Sites.
Workaround: Select a single Partner Site to perform this action on instead of all Partner Sites.
57785
In replication deployments, replication fails when initiated from the partner site on Real-Time Backup and Data Synchronization 1-way deployments.
Workaround: In replication deployments, please initiate replication from the first site.

Known issues with solutions or workarounds for Pervasive DataExchange v5 are published in the Knowledge Base on the Pervasive Web site. In the Knowledge Base, search on “Pervasive DataExchange Known Issues.”
