Pervasive PSQL Vx Server for Live Migration on VMs
If your IT infrastructure relies heavily on virtual machines and you have PSQL supported applications, then Pervasive PSQL Vx Server is for you. Pervasive PSQL Vx Server is designed to simplify live migration of PSQL applications in a virtual environment. Now, your PSQL application in a VM can move from physical server to server automatically as part of a failover operation for example, or manually as part of a hardware upgrade.
Simplified License Validation
License validation for PSQL Vx Server product key authorization requires only VM hostname and all VM NIC MAC addresses remain the same in each VM. Current versions of Pervasive PSQL Server and Pervasive PSQL Workgroup use a rigorous hardware and software component matching to run on virtual machines. This is why live migration with Server or Workgroup involves much more planning and nearly identical hardware configurations are required to makes automated moves successful. The improved license validation process (not requiring a hardware match) is what makes live migration with Pervasive PSQL Vx Server so much simpler.
Capacity Based Licensing
Pervasive PSQL Vx Server licenses are priced based on the amount of work the database can perform. Pervasive calculates the capacity of a PSQL VX Server database using two factors: 1) the number of concurrent sessions (internal data-consuming connections to the transactional or relational engine) and 2. data in use (total size of all the files opened by the database at any given point in time). Pervasive PSQL Vx Server is available in 4 base configurations: Small, Medium, Large and SuperSize. Concurrent session count and data in use increases are both available to allow customers to fine tune database capacity. And, unique to Pervasive PSQL Vx Server, time limited 60-day session count and data in use increases are available to provide an affordable way to meet peak demand database requirements. Base configuration sizes are:
- Small - 25 Concurrent Sessions and 5 GB Data in Use
- Medium - 100 Concurrent Sessions and 20 GB Data in Use
- Large - 250 Concurrent Sessions and 50 GB Data in Use
- SuperSIze - Unlimited Concurrent Sessions and Unlimited GB Data in Use

Internet Connection Required
Pervasive PSQL Vx Server requires an Internet connection to maintain the validity of the PSQL Vx license. PSQL Vx Server will periodically connect to the Pervasive licensing server to verify the state of any PSQL Vx installation and confirm that the number of instances and product key/machine ID pairings are correct. If Pervasive PSQL Vx Server fails to connect to the licensing server then the product key status will change from Active to Failed Validation and (for beta) you will have 30 days to re-establish the Internet connection before the product key is disabled.
No Application Changes Needed
Applications that run on Pervasive PSQL v11 will also work with Pervasive PSQL Vx. Pervasive PSQL Vx is built using Pervasive PSQL v11 Server technology. Data file formats, Pervasive PSQL access method APIs and operating systems support are all shared.
Full Install Required
Pervasive PSQL Vx Server is a separate product from both PSQL Server and PSQL Workgroup and requires its own full installation.
